The faculty of Humanities and Education is one of the best faculties ever, and additionally, is the home to many influential individuals and we would like to turn the spotlight on one such charismatic and ambitious young woman, Aundreen Leslie.
Aundreen Leslie is a well-rounded, hardworking, and self-motivated 2nd-year student at the University of the West Indies, where she has begun the process of creating a pathway of job opportunities for her future. She is fully engaged in many extra-curricular activities and one would be mesmerized at her ability to balance her positions, do well academically, find time to relax and tend to other personal areas in her life. She currently holds the following positions: Guild Representative for the Department of History and Archaeology, Ambassador of the UWI Student’s Today, Alumni Tomorrow (UWI Stat) community, a public relations officer of the United Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands North Eastern Regional Mission Council (UCYPF NERMC) for short, and she also attained the post of secretary for the Elsa Leo-Rhynie Towers Hall (ELR PR).
Behind every smile, there is a story and the ever so vibrant young woman has an inspiring story behind hers. She is a past student of the prestigious institution, St Jago High and she described her moment there as a bittersweet memory. “I got bullied a lot, but I had a strong school spirit and teachers who defended me 24/7s. During her tenure there she attained many positions. She was the Public Relations Officer for the ISCF club, Junior Lay Chaplain, Peace for Champs President, Nuttall House Captain, Prefect, Sub-Prefect, Executive Prefect, and Head Girl Nominee.
“I am a strong tenacious, ambitious, gracious, and optimistic person. I am a powerhouse. I’m super supportive and love really hard. I live by ‘They will know you’re a Christian by your love”.
This was Aundreen’s response when asked to describe herself and it is quite as inspiring like her. She is also gifted with talent. She praised her talent of being able to step into a room and command it, which not many people are able to. It makes her smile when others are happy and winning. Her worst fear is that she may not come out to anything due to her past situations as a child. Her inspirations are Jevaughn Gordon, Senator Gabriela Morris, her mom, her older brother Aundre Leslie, Pastor Michael Todd, RJR Sports Reporter Simon Preston and US Political Commentator Dr. Wendy Osefo.
When asked what she would advise her younger self, her response was: “Be yourself, don’t try to be anyone else. You’re beautiful and you’re worthy and in a couple of years you’ll see the powerhouse you’ll become.”
In Aundreen’s spare time she watches Reality Tv, “Anything from Bravo to E1.” Her favorite foods to eat are pizza, burgers, stew peas, and baked chicken. After University she wants to be a Sports Journalist, Lawyer, Sports Reporter, or Sports Broadcaster.
“I want to be remembered for being myself even when everyone was against me. Even if I help one person, at least I made a change.”
Aundreen Leslie’s life is guided by two significant quotes she deems as her philosophy: 1) ‘The greater your capacity to love, the greater is your capacity to feel pain’ (Jennifer Aniston, American Actor) and 2) ‘God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her break of day’ (Psalm 46:5, New International Version).
