Q&A With Hidden Gem Lee-san Gayle

Today’s Humed Star is Lee-San Gayle! She’s an award-winning professional videographer. She is a final year Film major whose passion for film is absolutely inspiring. She has already accomplished so much and guess what? She’s only 19 years old!

Q. Who is Lee-San Gayle?

A. “Lee-San Gayle is just a girl with issues and strengths and weaknesses and she’s just trying to be a good film student, film maker, friend, daughter and good sister. She’s just being a light in the world and she’s just trying to express her emotions in film, which is her healthy outlet.”


Q. What do you do in your spare time?

A. She sings “ loudly” in her house.
Writes her music
Watches movies
Writes down film ideas.

Q. What is your philosophy in life?

“There are no guarantees in life no matter what profession you pursue, you will have to work hard to be successful, so you might as well like what you’re doing.” (Lee-San’s Quote)

“Define success for yourself.”

“It’s the good and the bad.”
(Life is both good and bad, and it’s up to you to appreciate both aspects.)


Q. What are some films that have influenced your style of filmmaking?


A. “So many films have impacted our lives [the lives of film creators], even on a subconscious level.
Damien Chiselle’s films really have that story structure and that life and energy that really influence my style that I hope to develop because my style is still in development.

Whiplash and Lala Land
She appreciates the plot, character types, use of colours, cinematography and music. The elements all come together to tell a story.

The creators also have a way of crafting the movies in such a way that one can watch them numerous times and learn something new each time. She enjoys them because she also wants to craft her movies in a way that allows viewers to analyze them for hours and derive different interpretations each time.

Cloud Atlas and The Matrix

“If you make a film that people are obsessed with and its over two hours, long films that are so good and they end up wanting more after, I think that’s really impressive.”

She wants to create films that leave her readers wanting more after they have watched them, which is why she admires the creators of those films.

She also admires the suspense of the movies, the characterization and the setting of the previously mentioned movies.

“I want to make films that impact people and stay in people’s minds and touch people’s emotions.”

Taxi Driver

“There’s a darkness to it, but it’s also trying to make a statement and that’s what I want my films to do. I don’t want to make films that you can just watch in the background like white noise.”

Q. What film competitions have you participated in/won?

A. They include:
Lignum Vitae Film festival -Two awards in with her film ‘Sisters’.
Trinidad and Tobago Film Festival.

Q. What celebrities or public figures have you worked with?

A. Gayle has been on set with:
Hansel Parchment
Oliver Samuels
Chuck Fender
Alicia Thorpe

Q. What will be your legacy?

A. “Create films that continue to impact people emotionally and positively and leave them thinking about something and doing something with ther lives.”

What is an upcoming project that you’ll be participating in?

She’s going to be on the executive team of an upcoming project that she cannot disclose for legal reasons. It will be a Jamican Science Fiction television show.

She will also be releasing her first short film, which will be her final year project.
